Piles need treatment only if they are a problem to you. If your symptoms do not bother you and your doctor has examined you carefully, you do not need any treatment. Some people find that piles treatment creams can help their symptoms, but they can cause skin irritation and thinning of the skin if they are used for too long.

Small piles may be treated with injections or rubber bands. These treatments can be performed in the clinic while you are awake. There may be some bleeding and aching for a few days after banding. However, if the pain is severe or you have a temperature after your piles treatment have been banded or injected, you should return to hospital immediately.
